Funding will strengthen in-person digital navigation services and improve access to essential online resources

DETROIT (Feb. 24, 2026) – Comcast announced today it has awarded a $50,000 grant to Human-I-T, a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting low-income individuals and families with devices, Internet access, digital skills training, and ongoing tech support.

The grant will support Human-I-T’s expansion of in-person digital navigation services at the Detroit Digital Empowerment Center, enabling more residents to build foundational digital skills, set up devices, and confidently access essential online services.

“Connectivity is essential, but it becomes truly powerful when people have the skills to use it with confidence,” said Ben Miller, Executive Director of Government and Community Affairs for Comcast Michigan. “By expanding in‑person digital navigation services, we’re helping Detroiters build the knowledge and assurance they need to use technology in ways that positively impact their everyday lives.”

The Detroit Digital Empowerment Center serves as a trusted community resource for residents seeking to improve their digital confidence and connectivity. With this grant, Human-I-T will be able to increase programming to meet growing demand for personalized assistance, including one-on-one digital navigation, device configuration, and technical support. These services are especially critical for residents who prefer in-person help or face challenges accessing digital services remotely.

“Comcast’s support helps us do more than teach technology — it helps us strengthen the fabric of our community,” said Gabe Middleton, Co-Founder and CEO of Human-I-T. “By offering personalized digital skills training, we’re empowering Detroit residents to gain the confidence and capabilities needed to pursue jobs, access education, and engage fully in community life. This partnership ensures that technology becomes a tool for connection and growth, not a barrier.”

This grant is a part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to expand internet access, deliver digital skills training, and drive economic mobility.
